J. Cole Covers ESPN Magazine (W/ Dale Earnhardt, Jr.)

ESPN saves a spot for J. Cole on the cover of their February 2015 issue where he is riding shotgun next to Dale Earnhardt Jr. It is named The Music Issue.

Why Cole and Dale?
If you listened to "Note To Self," the last track on 2014 Forest Hills Drive, first of all, shout out to you! I think only Cole's super dedicated fans actually LISTENED to the full 14 minutes and 35 seconds. If you haven't heard it, I'm not spoiling "the credits" as he called it. But I will share the reason he landed a spot next to Earl on the ESPN magazine cover!

Well about 13 minutes through the track, Cole shouts out Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jonah Hill. He then says he really didn't meet either of those guys. Random, right?
Nah! Not totally. After some research, and as explained in the magazine, J. Cole said that due to him missing his deadline for physical credits for album he decided to shout everyone out who had something to do with the 2014 FHD album. He said he ecstatic and while in the moment he felt like shouting out someone random. He chose Dale and Jonah.

He said he remembers watching an interview of Dale and Dale talked about Cole's song, "Power Trip." He said he plays it before races.

"...he said "J. Cole 'Power Trip,'" which freaked me out! What is Dale Earnhardt Jr. doing playing my shit? How did he even find out about it? You don't think somebody on that level would ever hear your stuff. From there, I never forgot. I was always like, "Yo, I ride with Dale Earnhardt Jr." So when I was picking a name, I chose his."

He said when people bring up the album, they always bring up Earl. Earl heard about his shout out via Twitter he said. So it was random... but not exactly.

"Power Trip" was coming up on my Pandora station a lot. I found out Cole was from North Carolina, and when you like a guy's music and you find out he's from where you're from, you tend to start to follow him. I heard he had a new album, and it started popping up on my Twitter timeline that there was this shout out. I was like, "Oh shit, what's happening here?" So I went and listened to it, and it was funny as hell! So I tweeted to him, "Man, that shit's funny!" And he retweeted it and thought it was cool."

So...Yeah.... that's it. The two are perfect strangers! Congrats,  , for making the cover!
