Rutgers Fire Coach Mike Rice

Mike Rice,Rutgers University basketball coach has been fired after a videotape aired showing him using gay slurs, shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players during practice.

This tape aired on ESPN's "Outside The Lines" and  grabbed the attention from Gov. Chris Christie and everyone else in America.

Head of New Jersey Assembly called for Rice to be fired. Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernettti was given a copy of the video in late November by a former employee.
After hiring independent investigators to analyze the tape, he suspended Rice for three games, fined him $50,000 and ordered him to attend anger management classes.

Rice helped Rutgers achieve three successful seasons. Previously he helped Robert Morris to two NCAA tournament appearances.

However, successful or not the intuition needs to worry about whats right and wrong and they did so.

In a interview with WFAN Radio in New York on Tuesday, Pernetti confirmed that Robert Barchi , school president viewed the tape last fall and agreed with punishment. Governor Christie saw the video for the first time Tuesday and honestly couldn't believe what he saw.

I believe the way the school went about the situation was correct but took to much time. Investigation, YES that was a good idea but initially watching the video it can be seen this man was abusive to these players.

The video showed numerous clips of Rice being horrible towards his players. It shows him firing basketballs at players, hitting them in the back, legs, feet and shoulders. It also shows Rice pushing players around and grabbing them by their jerseys. Lastly, he was heard yelling gay slurs at the players.

When someone is being abusive towards one, it can significantly effect their lives. I honestly want to know what went threw these players heads as this happened to them.

Did they feel this was proper coaching technique or abuse? Where they scared to speak up? Did they even enjoy playing the sport they loved anymore and went to school for?

I hope more than just a firing comes from this video. I hope Rice is fined and charges are pressed by these young men families. In no way should they let this slide. Injuries could have occurred physically and mentally.

Rice was not only abusive to these players, he abused his authority. This is going to effect the university in many ways but I hope all positive actions are taken in this matter.

How do you feel about this ?

If you haven't seen the video you can watch a clip from the ESPN show below.
